Born into a military family, Kyle Poehls graduated high school in 2004, carrying with him a strong background in baseball. His athletic career was ultimately cut short due to injury. After earning his degree in 2008, Kyle joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2009, where he served with dedication. In 2020, following two severe comas, he retired from active service and soon relocated to his wife’s hometown.
Nick Geffre, a 2019 graduate of Watertown High School, played two seasons of legion baseball in Watertown, one under Coach Neale, and competed in varsity football for three years. After high school, he went on to play football at Northern State for a year before transferring to Dakota State University to play baseball. Now in his sixth year coaching for the Watertown Baseball Association and fourth season with the legion team, Nick is also in his first year as a Graduate Assistant baseball coach at Wayne State College in Nebraska.
Travis Schmidt graduated from Selby High School in Selby, SD, in 2003. During high school, he played two years of Legion baseball in Ipswich, SD, making a 55-mile commute each way from Selby. He was also active in football, basketball, and track. After high school, Travis played one year of college baseball at Northern State University before deciding to complete his degree in four years. He began coaching for the Watertown Baseball Association in 2015 and recently completed his tenth year coaching at various levels. During his time with the association, Travis was part of two state championship teams: the Black Sox in 2017 and Junior Legion in 2018.
